Pen and Paper: Rank the Club Members Before the Lecture

You work this in class, before any of it is named. It is designed so that you invent the measures yourself, with nothing but a pencil.

• Who’s the Big Cheese in the University Clubs? (handed out in class; the PDF is being rewritten): thirteen students, eight clubs, one network. You guess who matters most, then rank everybody by hand four different ways — count their friends, measure their distances, ask who is indispensable, and pass scores around the network — and find that the four questions crown three different students. Nothing about the network changed in between. Only the question did.

Group Mini-Project

Groups of up to three. One repository per group, graded once, with the same score going to every member of the group. Read how a mini-project runs first — exactly one person accepts the assignment and invites the rest, and that is the step teams get wrong.

Readers who are not enrolled in SSIE 641 cannot open the assignment repositories. The worksheet above and the hands-on notebook cover the same material and need no enrollment.
